Keith Urban opened up to a German magazine about his marriage to Nicole Kidman in his first interview since leaving rehab. "There's a handful of songs on the record that were inspired by her and by the way my life changed when we met - so much for the better," the singer says of his new album. "She was a good ray of sunshine in my life. I didn't intend to write any songs about her. I just wrote, and obviously what was coming out was how I was feeling... We've gone through a lot in the last three months and I think it's been the strength of our marriage [that] has carried both of us through." Urban also addressed the rumors that he had an affair with a lingerie model while he was dating Kidman, saying, "I know and God knows where my heart is at. I waited 39 years before I got married. It means everything to me to be married. Like everybody, I really want to do it only once. I'm very loyal in that respect, and committing to somebody means once that ring is on, I'm gonna stay." And about kids, the country star says he and Kidman would love to have them "when the time is right."
Keith Urban posted a video message to fans on his website today saying "no cataclysmic event" forced him into rehab, but that his life had become "unmanageable." "What it was, was a lot of small things that were happening in my life, and a lot of small moments that were starting to accumulate that were telling me very loud and clear that I was a long way from my program of recovery, and they were making my life unmanageable...it's been one of the most impactful times of my whole life." The country star thanks friends, family and fans, and his wife Nicole Kidman in particular, who, he says, "stayed extraordinarily strong and loving" throughout his recovery. "Abstinence was one thing, but then there was all this other are of my life to start learning about," Urban says. "Thirty days became 60, and 60 days became 90. And with each week that passed, I found myself really learning to surrender." To close the message, the singer said, "It feels really good to have gone through it and to be where I am right now, because where I am right now is starting on that road to getting back to doing what I love, which is playing music."
Keith Urban has officially completed treatment at the Betty Ford clinic for alcohol addiction. The country star's rep confirmed the news after Urban was spotted at the CAA afterparty for the Golden Globes with wife Nicole Kidman last night. Urban plans to pick up where he left off with promoting his new album and planning a European tour this April. The 39-year-old singer entered rehab on October 19 last year.
