Rassmussen Poll - 6/19/07

This Rassmussen Poll shows us something very interesting and instructive. It has Fred Thompson, who not officially announced his candidacy yet, in the lead. Giuliani is second, Romney third, and fourth, good 'ol amnesty for illegals let's just hand 'em the keys to our country himself, Juan McCain!

Now this should tell those who are paying attention that American Conservatives favor a true Conservative like Thompson over a pretender, a liberal in conservative clothes, like Giuliani. And, I think you can expect to see Thompson's lead increase, and Giulani fall to third as Romney gains momentum.

Paris Hilton Editorial - Class assignment.

This is a class assignment for broadcasting school, to write a 60 second editorial on Paris Hilton. Enjoy!

I can sum up my opinion of the whole Paris Hilton issue in two words, WHO CARES! We are in a time in our great nation when we have troops dying daily in Iraq, and when our lazy, inept, agenda driven politicians just finished trying to hand our country over to 12-20 million illegal alien invaders. We have much more important things to fill our time and brain space with than the exploits of a 26 year-old spoiled brat rich kid.

We, as a country, need to get a clue, and get our priorities straight. Paris Hilton is a non-issue to me. I'm tired of hearing about her. She did the crime, and did some time, so let's let her now fade into the relative obscurity that she so richly deserves, and shut up about her. Let's save our valuable air time and brain space for the things that really matter. Wake up and smell the coffee America!

Real Heroes

We have 9 new heroes to look up to now; the 9 brave firefighters from Charleston S.C. who gave their lives to save others from a horrific fire June 18.

In our society, the word hero is thrown around rather easily. Celebrities and athletes are referred to as heroes. They may be role models, and people to look up to and admire, but they are not heroes in the truest, most literal sense.

Would any of these sports figures or celebrities rush into a burning building in attempt to the lives of strangers, knowing in the backs of their minds that they themselves may not make it out? I doubt it.

If anyone deserves the title of heroes, it's these 9 people. It's the first responders who rushed into the twin towers on September 11, 2001 when everyone else was running out.

It's our brave military men & women putting themselves in harm's way to protect our freedoms. It's the brave men and women who put their lives on the line this week in Haltom City, Gainesville, and Sherman after flood waters decimated portions of these cities.

Let's give credit where credit is due. Let's quit deifying actors and athletes, and start showing honor and respect to those who truly deserve it.

Trent Lott hates talk-radio

Trent Lott says "talk radio is running this country. we need to do something about this problem". Well, if that is in fact true that talk radio is running this country, then I say GOOD! Somebody needs to. Lord knows the do nothings in DC aren't doing it. If anything, our government officials are running this country into the ground.

The people who listen to and call talk radio are more in tune and in touch with the wishes and desires of the American people because we ARE the American people.

Our non-leaders in our nation's crapital care more about their desires and agenda, which is to be re-elected, than they do the will of those of us who elected them.

Instead of listening to us and taking our desires to heart, they are trying to shove their agenda down our throats while vilifying and demonizing us for demanding that our laws be followed and enforced.

So, in light of this, I say we not only deport the illegal alien invaders, but also all of the politicians who support them instead of us and want to give them amnesty. This includes Jorge Bush, Juan McCain, and Miguel Chertoff.

For Fellow Husbands & Fathers on Father’s Day

I was looking through a booklet I have called "God's Little Instruction Book for Dad" and wanted pass along some of the wisdom from its pages, along with some of my own thoughts. Just a quick guide. The quotes from the book are in BOLD print, and the person quoted in BOLD ITALICS. The Bible verses that accompany each quote are in regular italics. And lastly, my thoughts and comments are in regular type below the quotes and Bible verses.

I couldn't agree more. I have an 11 year-old daughter from my first marriage and she has been what has kept me going through some of the darkest times in my life. Just hearing her say "daddy" or "dad" now that she has gotten older is music to my ears.

It has often been said, especially in the corporate world, that time is money. Well, in the eyes of a child, time is love. We make time for what's most important to us. Are you spending more time with your co-workers than your kids? With your golfing buddies? With your drinking buddies? With your TV? With your computer? Something to think about!

Common sense would tell us that making our kids afraid of us will only drive them away. A reverential type of fear, or a respectful type of fear, like the type of fear we are supposed to have for God, is one thing. But we should never cause our kids to be terrified of us.

That Anonymous is a smart dude. He's got this one figured out. We can learn from our past. From the triumphs and tragedies of those who came before us, but we can't change them. All we can do is be the best fathers and husbands we can be to our kids and our wives. And we do that best by leading them in serving the Lord.

Wow! Like it or not dads, your kids are watching you and patterning their lives after you. If they see you smoke or drink, guess what they're going to want to do. If they see or hear you lie to someone, then they will too. If they see you mistreat their mom, then they will most likely mistreat their wives. On the other hand, if they see you love and serve God, they will follow that example. If they see you love, support, and serve your family, they will do likewise when they grow up. What kind of role model are you being to your kids?

Not much upsets me more than to see these so-called parents who make their kids, when they are toddlers, look, talk, and act like little grown ups. You know the one's, they have their 4 year-old reading on a 4th grade level. They don't allow them to play with kids toys, watch kids shows on TV, run barefoot in the grass. No, they make their kids write essays, or practice spelling words. It's sad to see a five year-old with a better vocabulary than a thirty year-old, and it is saddest for the five year-old because he/she has missed out on some of the best times in life. Let your kids be kids! I'm not saying let them be heathens, structure and discipline are good things, but only when balanced with fun and play times.

As men, it's easy to derive our sense of self worth from our occupational title. We puff out our chests and say with pride "I'm a lawyer", or "I'm a doctor", or "I'm a ____". Not that there is anything wrong with any of these occupations or titles. Not at all. The thing is, one day we will all stand before God, even those who don't believe in Him, and give account of how we spent our lives. He could not care less how much money you made, what your title was, or how fast you climbed the corporate ladder. What He will care about is what kind of husband you were to your wife and what kind of dad you were to your kids. I think I would much rather puff out my chest and say, with great humility rather than pride, "I am a husband and father". I am not a perfect one by any stretch of the imagination, but I gladly and humbly accept the role.

Our kids hang on every word we say. And, some kids have hung themselves because of things said to and/or about them by their parents, fathers especially. We need to watch very closely what we say to or about our kids, and how we say it. Words mean things. And, whether it's true or not, and whether we mean it or not, when we say things to our kids like "you'll never amount to anything", or "you're as dumb as a box of rocks", if we say them long enough, our kids will start to believe it. They will take what we say to heart and will either live up to the positive things we say and the positive expectations we express, or they will live down to the negative ones.

Someone once came up with the idiotic saying "he who dies with the most toys wins". The reality is, he who dies with the most toys is still just as dead as the next guy. You cant' take it with you. I don't own an expensive home, or drive a fancy car. I live in an apartment and drive a 13 year-old truck. But, I consider myself to be one of the wealthiest men alive because I have a wife and daughter who love me and who I love and get to spend time with. Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and Donald Trump combined do not have enough money to equal what this is worth to me.

My dad didn't make a lot of money and I didn't grow up in the lap of luxury having any and everything I ever wanted. I never went without the things I needed though, including time. My dad got off work at 5:00 every night and by 5:40 we were sitting down to dinner as a family. He was home every weekend instead of on the golf course or somewhere else. And, he took us to church every time the doors were open. I decided a long time ago that that is the kind of man I want to be as well. No, my dad wasn't perfect and there are alot things about him that I don't want to emulate, but he got some of the most important things right, and that is what I remember most. He passed away over 10 years, August 25, 1996. One of the most important things he left with me was an understanding of the importance of faith and family. In the end, nothing else really matters. Nothing is more important.

Last week I purchased a burger at Burger King for $1.58. The counter girl took my $2 and I was digging for my change when I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen on her register. I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help.

While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried.

Why do I tell you this?

Because of the evolution in teaching math since the 1950s:

Speak English or Die

The tragic deaths of a Korean couple in Dallas a couple of weeks ago clearly demonstrates the importance of learning to speak English. They accidentally drove their car into a lake and called 9-1-1 for help. The dispatcher couldn't understand them because the couple couldn't speak English.

Now there's no absolute guarantee that they would have survived had they known English, but it certainly would have increased their chances. There is also absolutely no excuse for a couple who have been in America as long as they were, over 20 years, to not speak English.

There were two young kids from Lewisville who died in a trailer house fire a few months ago who might have been rescued had the adults known English. They tried to tell the firefighters where the kids were, but there was a language barrier and that barrier caused the kids to die in the fire.

Immigrants come over here and expect, and even try to force, us to learn their native tongue. They expect us to allow them into our workplaces and demand that we teach everyone else their native language and get insulted at the mere suggestion that they should learn English.

They expect us to allow their kids into our schools and insist that we teach our kids their foreign language, instead of requiring them (the immigrants) to learn English.

They demand that job applications, voter registration forms, driver's license tests, and myriad other government forms be printed in English & Spanish. Why? Because they are too lazy to change.

The sad thing we have exacerbated the problem by capitulating, or giving into their demands. Job applications should be in ENGLISH ONLY. If you come here, then you must do so LEGALLY and learn ENGLISH before being allowed to earn one dime.

Voter registration forms should be in ENGLISH ONLY for the obvious reason that only those immigrants who come here LEGALLY and assimilate should be allowed to vote.

All of our traffic signs, car instrument clusters, etc are in ENGLISH. If you can't speak, read, or write in ENGLISH, you should not be allowed to drive. Don't forget, driving is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT.

And don't dare even begin to think about asserting that police and firefighters be required to speak other languages and that if they don't and someone dies, it's the officer's or the firefighter's fault. It is not.

If an immigrant comes over here and refuses to learn ENGLISH & thus in an emergency cannot effectively communicate with first responders and dies, it is the immigrant's fault, and that of the emergency personnel.

It is the immigrant's responsibility, to first come here LEGALLY and then to LEARN ENGLISH. In that order. Basically, it could, as we have been so tragically reminded recently, come down to this; SPEAK ENGLISH, OR DIE.
