THE CONSTITUTION: Expired, or still relevant?

The way many of our so-called leaders in Washington act you would think one of them found an expiration date hidden somewhere in or on the Constitution. It’s almost as if they have found some hidden time frame for when the freedoms listed on this treasured document, cease to be relevant and applicable to our lives.

The most glaring example of this lies in the concept of political correctness. This whole notion that people have the right to not be offended is bogus and ludicrous. Nowhere in the Bill of Rights section of the Constitution is there stated or even implied a right to not be offended.

People having and using their rights and freedoms are going to offend some people at some point in time. The freedom to express one’s opinions is most likely going to anger or offend someone who holds a different point of view. The freedom to express one’s religious beliefs is going to offend those with different beliefs or no beliefs at all. Freedom is offensive to some people.

Far too many people in our current culture and society are the whiny crybaby types who if they see or hear something they deem offensive they run crying to big daddy ACLU and file a lawsuit.  They get this ignoble organization to go to court and try to get the rights of every American squelched or even eliminated altogether just to keep their sniveling, crybaby client happy. I honestly believe that there is this new cottage industry here in America…being offended and suing the offenders.

When I was growing up in the 70’s & 80’s, you could say what was on your mind, if someone disagreed or was offended by what you said, they would speak their mind and a lively debate would ensue. When it was over, they were still friends despite their differences. Even if you wished someone a “Merry Christmas” and had no idea they didn’t celebrate it, they would often have the class and decorum to respond “ Thank you so much for the well wishes. I don’t celebrate Christmas, but I appreciate the thought behind it”. That’s it, over and done with, no problem.

In today’s society though, it is a vastly different story. If you were to run into someone today in 2010 who is of a faith that doesn’t celebrate Christmas and you without knowing that wished that person a “Merry Christmas” they are likely to act as if it has scarred them for life, they will go hire an attorney, take you to court and not only sue you but also try to get the horrible, hideous, offensive word Christmas removed for our societal lexicon. If only there were more classy men and women walking around today like back when I was growing up, and fewer of the spineless, classless easily offended crowd. The world would be a much better place.

Some people seem to enjoy being offended and making a stink about it. It seems as if they go out of their way to find things that offend them, and if they can’t find a legitimate offense they will make one up. I am sure that someone reading this exercise of my God given, Constitutionally protected right of free speech and expression will be offended by it. That however, is their problem and not mine.

The federal government under the mis-leadership of Hussein Obama has all but run the Constitution through a paper shredder. Where exactly is government ownership and/or control of private businesses such as banks, car companies, insurance companies etc, provided for in the Constitution? We have gone from a governmental philosophy that says government is “of the people, by the people, and for the people”, to one that says “control the people, manipulate the people, and screw the people because the people are too dumb to know the difference”.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say government is supposed to give us not just all of our needs but all of our wants as well. I have a news flash for you, the government does not owe you a car, a house, a big screen TV, a job, or a paycheck. If you want these things, get up off your butt and go earn them like the rest of us.

And also, just a quick reminder, the First Amendment guarantees EVERYONE religious freedom, not just those of minority religions or of no faith or religion at all. In an allegedly free country allegedly governed by the Constitution, NO ONE should be discriminated against based on their faith.

Sadly, that is not the case and it is Christians being discriminated against the most by the government and the courts. Of course why would someone who so vehemently hates Christianity and Christians put any stock in or abide by a document written by Christian men and based on Christian principles. That document being the Constitution. We have mis-leaders in our federal government who hate the Constitution and by doing so hate America and all it stands for,

How is it that in this allegedly free and once great nation a Christian man can get fired from his job for having a Bible verse displayed in his office cubicle, but the Muslim or Buddhist next to him can have a religious shrine is his cubicle and nothing is said to him?  Just exactly who has the religious freedom in that case?

How is it in a nation that supposedly offers freedom of speech to everyone, a Christian man can state his beliefs about Islam being a religion that promotes terrorism and be charged with a “hate crime” but a Muslim can get up and disparage God, Jesus, the Bible and Christianity in a much more hateful and malicious manner than the other guy, but yet his speech is protected and not called a hate crime even though he calls for the death of all non-Muslims? How exactly does that work in a free country?

The only thing I want from the Hussein Obama administration, the only thing I want them to give me, is an explanation. I want them to show me just exactly where is the expiration date on the Constitution. My copy of it doesn’t have one. Theirs doesn’t either. It’s time “we the people” make them realize that and start acting accordingly. We are not “we the sheeple”, we are “we the people” and the government belongs to us, not to the current ruling class in DC.
