Students at war with Terry G.

There have been plenty rumours surrounding Terry G these past weeks. Was he really arrested, beaten up and detained by the Police? Was he involved in a car crash two days after his colleauge Dagrin passed?

NET investigations can now reveal that the rave singer-producer was actually arrested and detained, after failing to honour a performance engagement in the University of Benin, January.

As the poster and receipt above show, Terry was contracted to perform at a January 29, 2010 gig organised by the University’s Student Union Government.

But, after receiving an initial payment of N500, 000, the act and his crew reportedly failed to show up in Benin.

After repeatedly trying to get a refund from the singer’s management (including a sum of N68, 000 being cost of air tickets already purchased), Emike Cyril, the SUG Welfare Director tells NET they were left with no choice but to call in the Police.

Terry G was reportedly arrested and detained at the Oduduwa Police Division in GRA, Ikeja on Tuesday April 13, 2010. Sources say he was made to sign an undertaken promising to pay up the balance (including the full cost of the said show, totalling N1, 174, 000) by April 20.

Police PRO Frank Mba confirms to NET that the Police were called in to resolve the matter between Terry G and the UNIBEN SUG. ‘Since has was gentleman enough to accept his fault and agree to be responsible for the damages, we decided to let him go without locking him in a cell, after signing the undertaken.’ Mba told NET.

’He told us to get a bottle of Hennessey into every room booked for him and his four crew members and lied to us that he was on his way to the airport at 12:30pm and that he missed his flight. When we re-booked another flight with Arik, he still didn’t get on. We made several calls to his cell phone number to confirm his status at 4:30pm, but he wasn’t picking until the NANS president, Comrade Jude Imagwe called him with his phone and gave him an ultimatum to pay up for all the expenses in 48hours’ Emiko told NET in an interview last week.

Terry G was not available for comments, despite repeated visits by our reporter to his home and studio; and several phone calls to his mobile phones. But his PA, one Uche, claims ‘the matter has been resolved’.

According to Cyril Emiko, below are the conditions the National Association of Nigerian Students are asking Terry G and his managers to meet, in order to drop the case against him
He must pay the N1, 174, 000.00 for the whole expenses involved.
He will come to perform in UNIBEN without being paid a dime or transported by the Student Union Government.
He must go on national TV and apologize to the UNIBEN’s SUG and NANS.

Terry’s PA and Emiko confirmed to NET, last week, that the money transfer has been made (at First Bank, Fagba branch in Lagos). ‘But all other conditions still stand’ Emiko insists. ’he said he is sending some people in for a meeting to review the conditions. He doesn’t want to come to perform in UNIBEN, but if he does not, he will be hearing from our lawyer.’

Funke Kuti arrested by EFCC

Funke, estranged wife of Afrobeat star, Femi Kuti, was on Thursday afternoon, arrested in Lagos, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N50 million fraud.

Commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Baba-femi, confirmed the arrest.

Funke, daughter of Senator Brimoh Yusuf, was reportedly arrested at about 1 pm in Lagos and as of press time on Thursday being moved to Abuja for interrogation.

It was gathered that her arrest was a fallout of her alleged refusal to honour a letter from the anti-corruption commission, inviting her for interrogation over an alleged N50 million fraud committed in National Sports Lottery and Mobile Telecommunications Network.

Funke, who reportedly served as Group Head, Corporate Social Responsibility and Reputation Management of the outfit, was said to have earlier been invited to the commission’s office in Abuja to explain the circumstances surrounding the inability to provide the N50 million won by one Alhaji Tunde Ayinde Balogun, in a lottery programme handled by the outfit, but she spurned the invitation.

According to a highly-placed source in the commission, “One Alhaji Tunde Ayinde Balogun petitioned us that he won a N50 million lottery when the outfit did a promo. Investigation showed that he actually won and he was acknowledged as a winner. When it was time for him to collect his money, they {Funke’s outfit} started posting him. At a point they said he did not participate and refused to pay him. However the records of participation obtained from MTN revealed the man’s name as one of those who participated in the promo.

“So we wrote a letter to her, inviting her to Abuja for interview, trying to give her an opportunity to explain her own side of the story, but she refused to honour our invitation and that was what led to her arrest today.

Perry: Arizona type law not right for Texas

Law not right for Texas

Texas governor Rick Perry said Friday that an immigration law like the one recently enacted in Arizona is not right for his state. Let me make sure I understand this correctly. He is saying that a measure that actually enforces immigration laws already in existence and makes it harder for immigrants to come here illegally and harder for them to stay once they do get here is bad for his state? I can’t help but wonder which he thinks is worse, the problem of illegal immigration, or the law designed to help solve the problem? It would appear he thinks the solution is worse than the problem.



I have never in my life voted for a Democrat, but I might make an exception this time around in the governor’s race. Clearly governor Perry isn’t smart enough to see that an immigration law like the one in Arizona is exactly what Texas needs. If he is not smart enough to see that then he is not smart enough to be governor and is not smart enough to earn my vote.


Governor Perry thinks tough immigration laws are not right for Texas. I only have one thing to say to the governor about that. Governor Perry, it is you Sir, that is not right for Texas. Not anymore. We need a law like the one in Arizona and we need a governor who has the spine to enact one. You Sir, clearly do not. I hope you have enjoyed your time as governor, because if I have anything to say about it, you're done.

Deputy shot, illegals suspected

The story this link points to just another piece of the mountain of eivdence that shows why the Arizona immigration law is the right thing to do, and why it also right for other states, like Texas. Despite what governor Rick Perry, who is now I believe wrong for Texas, might think.

This story tells about some hardworking illegal immigrants who are believed to have shot a deputy who was trying to keep them from working to support themseves and their families. What was it they were working so hard at? In this case it was smuggling marijuana across the border. No doubt some of the same people protesting the law will use this example of fine, hardworking immigrants being harassed and shooting the deputy out of self-defense to try and make their case against immigration laws.

Or they may use the case of another hardworking immigrant, Juan Luis Martinez of San Angelo Texas, who activists say was gunned down in cold blood by a shop owner. Martinez walked into Cano's Diamonds in San Angelo waving a gun, attempting to rob the place. Yet another fine, upstanding immigrant just trying to make a better life for his family. As he was confronting store owner William Cano, an employee walked up from the back of the store. Martinez panicked and fired his gun at Cano. He missed. Cano, a retired Marine, returned fire and did not miss. Martinez left Cano's store in a body bag.

These are just two of many cases of fine, decent, upstanding undocumented workers who are being maligned and harassed for simply trying to make a better life for themselves. I'm sure I could site many others, but I think you get my point.

How many more people like this deputy, or the Arizona rancher, or the Dallas, TX police officer gunned down by a criminal immigrant a few years ago, have to die before we as a nation wake up and realize that Arizona got it right?! What is the magic number? How high does the body count have to go? What is it going to take for us to see that the remaining 49 states need to follow Arizon'a lead and enact smiliar laws? And are the states that have governors who lack the courage and spine to do so going to remove them at the ballot box next election? I certainly hope so and I hope Texas is the first to do so by getting rid of the spineless Rick Perry.

Arizona made it clear that illegal immigrants and activist groups like La Raza and LULAC and others are not runnig their state and that they DO NOT set or dictate immigration policy. We need more states like Arizona with governors like Jan Brewer. We need a federal government led by a President who actually cares about this country and doing what's best for our national sovereignty and security instead of one who is in bed with these activist groups. Until we get more of these courageous leaders, we will continue to have an out of contrtol criminal immigration problem in this once great country. As long as we continue to let criminal immigrants and the activists that support them run our country and dictate policy to our so-called leaders, our nation's greatness will continue to diminish.
