We need to show more sympathy for these people. They travel miles in the
heat, they risk their lives crossing a border, they don't get paid enough
wages, they do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do, they live in
crowed conditions among a people who speak a different language, they
rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day every day.

I'm not talking about illegal Aliens, I'm talking about our troops.

Doesn't it seem strange that the Democrats are willing to lavish all kinds
of social benefits on illegals, but don't support our troops and are now
threatening to defund them?

The Fred Thompson Factor

The plot thickens. At least in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, and Mit Romney have been considered the front runners almost since day one. Enter the giant killer. Fred Thompson. It has been rumored for several months that Thompson was thinking about running, but now it appears official. He has started fundraising and hired a campaign staff. A GOP official close to Thompson says he is definitely running and plans to officially announce in July. Rumors are now saying that announcement could come, appropriately enough, on July 4.

News 92.3 KTAR out of Phoenix AZ is reporting that in a poll conducted this week that Thompson comes in with 57% of the votes. John McCain is second with 13%. everyone else is in single digits. This should tell us that a Thompson entry will most definitely shake things up.

Thompson is much more of a true Conservative, a Reagan Conservative, than any of the other perceived front-runners. Giuliani is at best a half-conservative. While he is strong on the war on terror, he lacks a spine when it comes to immigration, and is pro-choice, pro gun control, and pro gay rights. His adultery and multiple marriages are an issue for many as well.

McCain is also on the right side of the war issue, but like Giuliani, her favors amnesty and open borders. He was one of the authors of this turkey of an immigration bill currently in Congress. He is also very liberal on social issues.

Then there's Romney. He seems to be the most conservative of the three. A concern is that his conservatism seems recently arrived at. Makes one wonder is it real, or politically expedient? One big plus is that he has been married to the same woman for 37 years. His Mormonism is a big issue for many Conservatives as well.

Former Senator Thompson, on the other hand has a fairly consistent conservative voting record. he has come out solidly against the so-called Immigration Reform bill. He steadfastly supports our troops and knows we need to win the war, not surrender. He is pro-life and supports family values issues important to so many. He seems to be the answer that true Conservatives are looking for.

What annoys me is how the popular, well-respected Conservative talk-show hosts like Sean Hannity and Mark Davis, have become unabashed shills for Giuliani. It has even gotten so bad that I emailed Davis a few weeks back and asked him how much Rudy is paying him to be his mouthpiece. He didn't respond. It seems like they go out of their way to praise and to boost Giuliani, while finding reasons, even if they have to make them up, to not favor guys like Fred Thompson.

Now, if by some wacky quirk Rudy, McCain, or Romney got the GOP nomination, would I settle for one these RINO's over a Hitlery or Osama, I mean Obama? Sure I would. I would NEVER support a Democrat. Except for possibly Joe Lieberman, or Zell Miller. But my point is, there is no need to settle. We have the opportunity to nominate the right guy, Fred Thompson.

We should not let people who out fawning admiration for Rudy because of his leadership in NYC during 9/11, trick us into settling for less than the best. Or those who have the same type of feelings for McCain's war hero status. God bless both men for these strong traits and qualities. These qualities alone though, do not make either of them right for the nomination.

Is Fred Thompson perfect? Of course not. No one is. But as I see it, he has far more positives than his opponents and far fewer negatives. So what if he is a Hollywood actor? Seems to me like the last time we had an actor turned politician serve as President, we were a lot better off as a nation because of it. And still are. Will history repeat itself? Only time will tell. The only thing I know for certain is that as a Conservative, I am not willing to settle for less than a true Conservative as our nominee. The $64,000 question is, how many other Conservatives are with me??

Converting Kirk Cameron

BELLFLOWER, California - At the height of his Hollywood success, former "Growing Pains" sitcom star Kirk Cameron started worrying about something his money couldn't buy: salvation.

He had more than just legions of fanatic fans. He also had stalkers and kidnapping threats, and was sometimes driven to the set in a bulletproof car. It got him thinking about his own mortality. He had it all, but still felt empty.

"I was raised not going to church. We never prayed — didn't know how. Are you supposed to close your eyes, keep them open? Look up? Look down? Get on my knees? What do I do?"

Cameron started reading the bible and going to church. He became a Christian, but says his transition had some growing pains of its own.

On the set of his hit show, the easy-going prankster became detached and sullen. Once close to the other cast members, he pulled away from them all — except his co-star and fellow Christian, Chelsea Noble, whom he married in 1991.

He also started taking issue with some of the show's writing. One script called for his TV mom to have a nightmare in which Cameron's character, Mike Seaver, wakes up next to a beautiful girl and says, "Hey, babe. Good morning. By the way, what's your name again?"

Cameron balked, pushing for the writers to change the scene. They refused. Cameron says he wasn't trying to push his religious views on the show. He just didn't want to compromise his newfound moral principles.

When the series was cancelled after a long and successful run, he continued acting, but began taking roles on low-budget Christian films, most notably the rapture-based "Left Behind" series based on the best-selling books.

A few years later, after reading one of his books, he met New Zealander Ray Comfort, a former surf shop owner-turned-roving preacher.

They teamed up to form Way of the Master Ministries.

Comfort says his ministry was already taking off, but the partnership with Cameron was like putting it on steroids.

Cameron says his priorities are very clear: "God, family, career — in that order."

"Both Kirk and myself are amazed at his celebrity," says Comfort. "How powerful it is when you call an organization and say 'Hello, this is Kirk Cameron.' They say, 'Oh Kirk, I loved "Growing Pains."' It's such a wonderful door."

They have harnessed Comfort's writing and Cameron's celebrity to create a small multimedia empire that is in service of a hardcore fundamentalist message: Accept Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior or you will not get to heaven.

They get their message out through books, pamphlets, radio programming an award-winning TV show seen in 70 different countries — and a slick Internet site wayofthemaster.com.

Cameron is 36 now and still has the boyish good looks of his TV character — but with a few of the wrinkles and creases that go along with self-reflection and fatherhood. He and his wife have six children, four adopted and two of their own.

He says he is more comfortable in his Christian skin today, his convictions just as strong, but without the isolating air of self-righteousness. He has reconciled with former "Growing Pains" cast members and even was part of a reunion show in 2000.

But Cameron says his priorities are very clear: God, family, career — in that order.

He says those decisions have had negative consequences for his career.

"I had one producer in a meeting discussing a movie say, 'So I hear you've got content issues.' You know, absolutely I've got content issues," Cameron says. "What I would say is I've got convictions. I've got priorities. If someone was asking me to do something that would compromise my relationship with my wife I wouldn't do that; if that's going to hurt my marriage, I'm not going to do that. If it's going to hurt my kids, I'm not going to do that and I take it a step further and say if this is going to hurt someone else's kids, I don't want to be a part of that."

"It's about personal integrity," he says, "that's all."

Cameron says he'd love to do non-religious films and TV again, but at times it's difficult to convince producers that while he has found Jesus, he hasn't lost his sense of humor.

The REAL meaning of Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend is considered by many as the unofficial start of Summer. It is a time of travel, cookouts, trips to the lake, and other fun activities. However, there is a meaning behind the holiday that it would behoove us to never forget.

Memorial Day is a day set aside for America to remember, recognize, and honor the many men and women of our military who have fought and died to protect our right and freedom to participate in the fun activities mentioned in the previous paragraph. Freedom is not free. it is purchased at a very high price. That price very often, is people's lives.

Even though Memorial day is the national recognized holiday set aside for such remembrance, we should be mindful every day of the sacrifices made for us and our freedom. Just as we should keep the spirit of Thanksgiving with us all year round and not just the last Thursday in November, or the spirit of Christmas should be with us more than just on December 25, so it is with Memorial Day. Setting aside a specific day to have a national holiday is fine, but we must never forget the sacrifices made for our freedom and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on a daily basis.

So, this Memorial Day weekend, if you come across a veteran who survived his or her tour of duty, thank them and honor them for their service. If you come across the family of a soldier who did not survive, know that this family also gave the ultimate sacrifice, and honor them and thank them for their sacrifice. Believe me, that is the very least we can do. We owe them so much more, and any respect and honor we give them will be greatly appreciated.

So on behalf of my family THANK YOU!!! To all men and women who have served our country in the military! We love and honor you all!!
