Taxing mom's taxi

Well just when you think you have heard everything when it comes to taxes, leave it to our soon-to-be ex-president to come up with a doozie of a new tax. He is actually floating the idea of taxing cars according to the miles they are driven. That’s right, you heard it here, our clueless misleader wants to tax mom’s taxi.

There are a lot, and I mean a lot, of people who live in and around Sherman who commute to work every day. Many commute down to the Dallas area. Some head West to Gainesville, some East to Bonham and Paris, and some even venture across the Red River to jobs in Durant and Ardmore Oklahoma. If our soon-to-be ex-president has his way, this will severely hurt these commuters because it is almost a certainty that their incomes will not increase in accordance with the new tax.

The way this will work is, each vehicle owner will have to purchase and have installed at his or her own expense, a device that records the miles driven, calculates the tax based on that number of miles, and then levies and collects that tax at the gas pump when you fill up. As if we don’t already pay enough at the gas pump.

There is not a person or a walk of life that won’t be affected by this. Men and women who commute to and from their jobs will either have to find work close to home, or move close to work. Small business owners who have company vehicles will be hit hard and may even have to let some people go. Stay at home wives and moms will have to severely curtail their driving, as will single moms who are already having a hard enough time.

I would urge everyone reading this who will be adversely affected by this new law to call you congressman today and tell them to vote no on this bill or you will vote no on them next time around.

This is nothing more than an attempt by our federal government to control and restrict our travels and make money that they can squander elsewhere in the process. The American people, and especially those of us here Texomaland are tapped out. We have no more money for the government to confiscate. This proposed new tax on mom’s taxi will very likely drive mom’s taxi service right out of business.
