The Intersection 2007 gladly endorses and supports
Fred Thompson for President in 2008

It is my belief that he is the best person for the job. He is the only true Conservative with the name recognition and "star power" that is needed to beat Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama.
What's wrong with Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, and Mit Romney, you ask. Simple. Giuliani is a half-Conservative at best. His negatives outweigh his positives, even though his few positives are strong ones. We have just gone through 8 years of a president who turned out to not be as Conservative as we wanted him to be. It makes no sense to me to nominate someone from the start who is more Liberal than Conservative. I don't think America can survive another 4 to 8 years of pseudo-Conservatism.
My problems with McCain are exactly the same as with Giuliani. God bless him for his military service in Vietnam, but that alone does not qualify someone to be President. He is too Liberal on social issues, and way too soft on illegal immigration.
Mit Romney is a bit more interesting to analyze. He seems to be solidly Conservative on most of the key issues, however, he arrived at his Conservatism very recently and I can't help but wonder if the conversion was sincere, or merely politically expedient. Plus, I have a problem with having someone who is a member of a cult (Mormonism) as President.
That is not meant to take anything away from Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo, both of whom have strong Conservative credentials. They just don't have the the name recognition to beat whoever the Democrats offer up as their nominee. Either one would make a stellar running mate for Thompson though. A Thompson/Hunter, or Thompson/Tancredo ticket would be hard to beat.
