Genesis 22 1:14 tells us the story of Abraham and God's request that he sacrifice his only son Isaac. Abraham, even though Isaac was the promise he had waited 25 years for, he was willing to give him up out of obedience to God. That is because of Abraham's unwavering trust in God. Pastor Randy said this morning that, "Unwavering trust is ruthless because it requires letting go of what we fear losing the most." Abraham was willing to let go of and sacrifice his dream for the future knowing that God would provide another way. Once He saw Abraham's demonstration of this unwavering faith and trust, God provided a ram for the sacrifice instead of Isaac.
What is that you fear losing the most? Is it a ministry calling? Is it your career. Is it child? Is is a spouse or maybe the person you dream of spending the rest of your life with? Whatever the dream is that God has placed in your heart, or the precious gift He has given you, if it is the thing you fear losing the most, then you must let go of it and give it back to God. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Let this letting go be your demonstration of unwavering trust and faith in God. When you do, be expectantly awaiting God to show up on the scene with your miracle. Like He did with Abraham, you may see Him not only give you back the thing you gave back to Him, but He just might also provide you with an alternative sacrifice as well.
The greatest test of Abraham's faith came when God told him to sacrifice his only son on Mt. Moriah. The Old Testament story is a picture of God providing His only Son as the sacrifice for our sins. This strategic truth reveals the way of salvation through Jesus, our substitute, on the cross.
